Bolivia is the most indigenous country in South America and the most visually astonishing. The Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat, turns after rain into an enormous mirror where the sky meets the ground. The trip is designed exclusively for you, with a private guide and your own pace.
Tiwanaku flourished on the shores of Titicaca a thousand years before the Incas. In 1545 the Spanish found the silver of Potosí — a mountain that funded the Spanish empire for two centuries and cost countless lives. Independence came in 1825 under Simón Bolívar, from whom the country takes its name.
The Salar de Uyuni, twelve thousand square kilometres of salt. La Paz, the highest capital in the world, with cable cars that serve as a metro. Lake Titicaca and the Island of the Sun. The coloured lagoons of Eduardo Avaroa with their flamingos. And Potosí, whose mines are still worked.
The salteña, a juicy pastry eaten in the morning, is an institution. Silpancho combines rice, potato, breaded beef and egg. Bolivia grows more than two thousand varieties of potato.
