Good travel insurance protects you when something does not go to plan: if you fall ill abroad, need to cancel your trip or your luggage goes missing. Ask for it together with your quote and it comes in the same package.

What it covers

  • Medical expenses abroad: doctor, medicines, tests and hospital stay.
  • Trip cancellation or interruption for a serious health reason or another unforeseen event, according to the policy terms.
  • Luggage: loss, theft or delay.
  • Repatriation: transport back to Greece in case of a serious health problem.
  • 24-hour assistance, wherever you are.

Cover limits and exclusions differ between policies. We send them to you in writing with your quote, before you decide.

When it is required

  • Cuba: health insurance for your whole stay; it may be checked on arrival.
  • Ecuador and the Galapagos: health insurance for your whole stay.
  • Cruises and some activities (e.g. diving or high-altitude trekking) often require it.

For other trips it is not mandatory, but we always recommend it for trips outside Europe, for trips that need a visa and for long flights.

Within the European Union: the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) covers necessary care in public healthcare, on the same terms as residents of the country. It does not cover private clinics, trip cancellation or repatriation, so travel insurance is useful in Europe too.
Schengen visa: this does not apply to Greek citizens. The insurance required for a Schengen visa concerns citizens of countries outside the European Union.
