Leros is a quiet, green Dodecanese island with deep bays, Italian architecture and an authentic atmosphere. Away from mass tourism, it offers tranquillity, picturesque villages and beautiful beaches. It is ideal for those seeking relaxation and authentic experiences.
Leros is linked in mythology as an island dedicated to Artemis. In the 20th century, under Italian rule, the town of Lakki (Portolago) was built with striking Art Deco and Rationalist architecture, unique in Greece. The island played a strategic role in the Second World War.
Lakki, with its unique Italian Rationalist architecture, is unusually impressive. The medieval castle of Panagia above Platanos and Agia Marina offers a panoramic view. Picturesque Pandeli with its windmills and the beaches of Alinda and Vromolithos stand out.
Leros cuisine is based on fresh fish, local cheeses and regional products. Try seafood, the local anapodogyrista sweets and meze in tavernas around the bays. The gastronomy is simple, authentic and generous.
Nightlife is calm, with atmospheric bars and meze restaurants in Pandeli, Agia Marina and Lakki. Evenings pass in a relaxed way by the sea, with views of the illuminated windmills. It is a destination for quiet and authentic island life.
