Meganisi lies just off Lefkada. The ferry leaves from Nydri and reaches Vathy or Spartochori in about 25 minutes, with several crossings a day all year. You can bring a car, though the island is small enough to manage without one. Lefkada itself is reached by road — it is joined to the mainland by a floating bridge, so no ferry is needed to get that far.
Three settlements: Spartochori, perched above a natural harbour with views back to Lefkada; Vathy, the main port, lined with tavernas; and Katomeri, the quiet inland village. The coastline is cut by deep coves reachable mainly by boat — Papanikolis, one of the largest sea caves in Greece, is the best known, said to have hidden a Greek submarine during the war.
Agios Ioannis, Limonari and Fanari are the easiest to reach; the rest need a boat, which is part of the pleasure. Tavernas serve fish, local olive oil and Lefkada lentils.
Rooms are limited and fill from June — book early. There is one small supermarket and no bank; bring cash. Boat trips to the caves and surrounding islets run daily in summer from Vathy.
