A few words

A complete tour of Scotland, from Edinburgh to the wild Highlands and the legendary Isle of Skye. Lochs, castles, whisky distilleries and landscapes that look straight out of a fairy tale. You travel with your own car and at your own pace, on an itinerary tailored to you.

History

Scotland was an independent kingdom for centuries, with leaders such as William Wallace and Robert the Bruce, before uniting with England in 1707. The Highlands were shaped by the Jacobite risings and the battle of Culloden in 1746. The heritage of the clans, with their tartans and bagpipes, remains alive in every corner of the country.

Sights

In Edinburgh the highlights are the Castle, the Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace and Arthur’s Seat. In the Highlands you will see Loch Ness, Urquhart Castle, photogenic Eilean Donan and the imposing glen of Glencoe. On the Isle of Skye you will find the Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing, the Fairy Pools and the capital Portree.

Food

Scottish cuisine is built on outstanding raw ingredients: Aberdeen Angus beef, lamb, salmon and west coast seafood. Haggis with neeps and tatties is the national dish, while breakfast is served hearty and hot. And of course, a whisky tasting at a traditional distillery is an essential experience.

Nightlife

Edinburgh has a lively scene with historic pubs in the Grassmarket and modern bars in the New Town. In the Highlands, evenings are spent in warm pubs with live Celtic music and local ales. If you are in Edinburgh in August, the Fringe festival turns the whole city into a stage.

Tour's Location

When is the best time to travel?

This is a made-to-order trip, so you choose the dates. We are happy to advise on the best season for this destination and on how the weather, prices and crowds change through the year — just tell us roughly when you are thinking of travelling.

What is included in the price?

The main inclusions are:

  • Air tickets Athens - Edinburgh - Athens
  • Accommodation in selected hotels with Scottish breakfast
  • Car hire for the whole route
  • Ferry or bridge crossings along the route

The full list of what is and is not included appears in the "Included / Excluded" section on this page.

What travel documents do I need?

For destinations outside the European Union you need a passport valid for at least six months beyond your return date, with blank pages for stamping. A national ID card is not accepted. Some countries also require a visa or an electronic travel authorisation to be obtained before departure, and a few ask for specific vaccinations. Entry rules change, so please confirm the current requirements with our office before you book.

What currency is used?

The local currency is British Pound (GBP). Cards are widely accepted in cities and hotels, but it is worth carrying some cash for small shops, markets and tips. Tell your bank you are travelling so your card is not blocked.

Can I change the dates or cancel?

Changes and cancellations follow the terms of the airlines, hotels and suppliers booked for you, so the cost depends on how close to departure you are and on the fare rules of each booking. Tell us as early as possible and we will look for the least costly option. The general terms of participation apply to every booking.

Is travel insurance included?

Travel insurance is not included in the price unless the "Included" list on this page says otherwise. We strongly recommend it, especially for trips outside the EU, so that medical care, cancellation and lost luggage are covered. We can arrange a policy for you — just ask when you book.

Can the trip be customised?

Yes — this is an individual trip, not a group departure. There is no fixed itinerary and no coach schedule: you travel on your own, at your own pace. We can change the number of nights, the class of hotel, add or drop destinations and arrange transfers, car hire or private guides.

How do I book?

Send us a request through the form on this page, call us, or drop by the office. We will come back with availability and a written quotation before anything is charged. The trip as shown runs for 8 days.
