Monemvasia is a castle-town wonder, built on an imposing rock connected to the mainland by a single entrance (“moni emvasis”). The medieval Lower Town, with its stone alleys and Byzantine churches, is one of the most romantic destinations in Greece. A journey back in time.
Monemvasia was founded in the 6th century and grew into a powerful Byzantine fortress and trading port, famous for its Malvasia wine. It passed through Byzantines, Venetians and Ottomans, always keeping its strategic importance. It is the birthplace of the poet Yannis Ritsos, who celebrated his homeland.
The medieval Lower Town, with its cobbled streets, mansions and the church of Christ Elkomenos, is a living monument. Climbing to the Upper Town leads to the impressive Hagia Sophia with its view over the open sea. The castle, the walls and the sunsets from the rock are unforgettable.
The cuisine of Monemvasia and Laconia is based on olive oil, local products and Malvasia wine, which has been revived in the area. Try local dishes and seafood in tavernas within the castle-town and in Gefyra. Dinner with a view of the illuminated castle is a unique experience.
Nightlife is elegant and romantic, with atmospheric bars and restaurants within the Lower Town and in Gefyra. Evenings pass in a relaxed way with a drink and a sea view, beneath the medieval walls. Monemvasia is an ideal destination for couples.

Yes — once your booking is confirmed, the price is fixed and won't be affected by later changes in flight or hotel prices. Availability and price can only change before your booking is finalised.
Since this is a self-drive trip in your own car, there is no departure surcharge — you set off from wherever suits you.
For your trip within Greece, a valid national ID card or passport is enough. If you travel by air, you need an official photo ID for the airport check. For minors travelling, please check any required documents in advance.
Changes and cancellations follow the terms of the airlines, hotels and suppliers booked for you, so the cost depends on how close to departure you are and on the fare rules of each booking. Tell us as early as possible and we will look for the least costly option. The general terms of participation apply to every booking.
Travel insurance is not included in the price unless the "Included" list on this page says otherwise. We strongly recommend it, especially for trips outside the EU, so that medical care, cancellation and lost luggage are covered. We can arrange a policy for you — just ask when you book.
Yes — this is an individual trip, not a group departure. There is no fixed itinerary and no coach schedule: you travel on your own, at your own pace. We can change the number of nights, the class of hotel, add or drop destinations and arrange transfers, car hire or private guides.
