Folegandros is a small, wild and romantic island of the Cyclades, with one of the most spectacular Choras in the Aegean, built on the edge of a sheer cliff. Far from mass tourism, it preserves an authentic character and enchanting landscapes. It is ideal for couples and those seeking quiet.
Folegandros has been inhabited since antiquity and was at times used as a place of exile because of its isolation. The medieval Chora was built inside a Venetian Kastro, at the edge of the cliff, for protection against pirates. The island kept its traditional character almost intact.
The Chora, with its Venetian Kastro and tree-shaded squares, is considered one of the most beautiful in the Cyclades. The church of Panagia, built high above the Chora, offers a panoramic view and a magical sunset. The Chrysospilia cave and the beaches of Agkali, Livadi and Katergo stand out.
The cuisine of Folegandros is based on pure local products: the local souroto cheese, matsata (handmade pasta with rooster or goat) and fresh fish. Try traditional dishes in tavernas in Chora and Karavostasis. The flavours are simple and authentic.
Nightlife is elegant and relaxed, with atmospheric bars and ouzeri in the squares of Chora. Evenings pass romantically with a drink under the trees and a view of the illuminated alleys. Folegandros is a destination for quiet, not for intense partying.
