The Larissa coast is the most overlooked in Thessaly. Between Olympus and Pelion, Mount Kissavos drops sharply to the sea and creates pebble beaches with clear water, without the crowds of Halkidiki.
From Larissa 40 kilometres, 45 minutes. From Thessaloniki 190, two hours. From Athens about 380. The Agia-Stomio road descends in bends through chestnut woods with striking views.
Stomio, where the Pineios reaches the Aegean after passing through Tempi, with the monastery of Agios Dimitrios on the hill. Agia, a town of plane trees and running water at the foot of Kissavos. The cave of Melivoia and the Kissavos trails (1,978 m) to the refuge. A little north, Rapsani with its renowned vineyards.
Stomio, Karitsa, Koutsoupia, Velika and Sotiritsa — sandy or pebbled, organised but calm even in August.
Fish at Stomio, Rapsani PDO wine, chestnuts in autumn and tsipouro with meze in Agia.
The Larissa-Agia-Stomio road is good; avoid the side roads after rain. The area combines easily with Tempi and Olympus.
