Thasos is the greenest island in the Aegean, with dense pine forests reaching down to the sea and marble-white beaches that resemble tropical shores.
Inhabited since antiquity thanks to its gold and marble deposits, Thasos was a wealthy ancient city-state. Impressive ruins survive today in the island’s capital.
The archaeological site and castle of Thasos (Limenas), Giola beach, Golden Beach, and the mountain villages of Theologos and Panagia with their traditional architecture.
Fresh fish, local honey and the island’s famous spoon sweets make up an authentic island cuisine, best enjoyed at tavernas right by the water.
Nightlife is centred on Limenas, with bars and beach bars at the nearby beaches — a relaxed atmosphere, away from the bustle of other islands.
