A one-day excursion to Byzantine Mystras, with a guided tour of the new Palace of the Despots Museum and free time in the renowned fortified town of Laconia.
Departure: Sunday, November 15, 2026, 09:00 from Xylokastro and 09:15 from Kiato, heading to Laconia.
Arrival at Byzantine Mystras and a guided tour of the new Palace of the Despots Museum, where unique, handmade reconstructions of the court garments from the Palaiologan era are on display. The garments were designed based on Byzantine iconography and embroidered by the sisterhood of the Holy Monastery of Pantanassa Mystras, in collaboration with the Greek National Opera. Through three-dimensional digital reconstructions, videos and interactive screens, the atmosphere of the palace, its ceremonies, and Mystras’s ties with the West come to life. Free time to explore, take photographs and get to know this great Byzantine fortified town. Afterwards, a stop for lunch and coffee at a traditional tavern in the Agios Ioannis area. Late in the afternoon, departure for the return journey.
