Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is one of the most atmospheric and magical cities in the world. Known as the “Golden City” or the “City of a Hundred Spires”, Prague feels like a living open-air museum that almost miraculously escaped the bombings of World War II, preserving its historic architecture intact. Built on the banks of the Vltava river, the city captivates visitors with its fairy-tale Gothic and Baroque buildings, narrow cobbled lanes, imposing castles and stone bridges. It is a destination that combines a romantic vintage aura with a lively, modern everyday life, while offering excellent quality of service at particularly affordable prices.
Prague was founded in the late 9th century and quickly became the seat of the kings of Bohemia. The city enjoyed its greatest golden age in the 14th century under the reign of Charles IV, who made it the capital of the Holy Roman Empire and built some of its most iconic monuments. Over the centuries, Prague was an important centre of culture, science and religious reform. In the 20th century it endured Nazi occupation, and after the war it passed behind the Iron Curtain under Soviet control. In 1968 the city became the focal point of the “Prague Spring”, an attempt at democratisation that was violently suppressed, before finally winning its freedom in 1989 with the peaceful “Velvet Revolution”, which shaped its modern, independent and cosmopolitan character.
The tour begins in the Old Town (Staré Město) and its historic Square, dominated by the famous 15th-century Astronomical Clock, which offers a unique spectacle every time the hour changes. From there, walk to the iconic Charles Bridge, the stone bridge with its 30 statues of saints, linking the Old Town with the picturesque Malá Strana quarter. Crossing the bridge, you will climb up to Prague Castle (Pražský hrad)—the largest ancient castle in the world—inside which the Gothic St Vitus Cathedral and the fairy-tale “Golden Lane” will take your breath away. For a dose of modern architecture, admire the “Dancing House” on the riverbank. Finally, a sunset cruise on the Vltava or a visit to the Jewish Quarter (Josefov) with its historic synagogues round off the experience.
Czech cuisine is traditional, rich in meat dishes and particularly hearty—ideal for keeping you warm. The most famous dish is Goulash (slow-cooked beef in a rich sauce, served with knedlíky—traditional bread dumplings). Also try Vepřo-knedlo-zelo (roast pork with dumplings and sauerkraut) and Koleno (a whole pork knuckle marinated in beer, with crispy crackling). On the street-food front, the scent of Trdelník will greet you on every corner (a traditional cylinder-shaped pastry baked over charcoal with sugar and cinnamon, often filled with ice cream or praline). Naturally, the Czech Republic has the highest beer consumption per capita in the world, so tasting an authentic Pilsner Urquell or a Budvar is simply a must, as it costs even less than water!
Prague’s nightlife is lively, affordable and caters to every taste, from traditional beer halls to multi-storey clubs. The evening usually starts in the historic Czech pubs (pivnice), such as U Fleků, for fresh, unpasteurised beer and the local Becherovka liqueur. The area around Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí) and the lanes of the Old Town are full of trendy cocktail bars and jazz clubs with live music. For dance lovers, Prague is home to Karlovy Lázně, the largest club in Central Europe, housed in a 14th-century building next to Charles Bridge and offering 5 different floors with different styles of music.
The official currency of the Czech Republic is the Czech Koruna (CZK), so you will need to exchange currency or use a card (cards are accepted almost everywhere, but it is good to have a few koruna for small expenses on the go). Prague is one hour behind Greece and the international dialling code is 00420. The city is served by Václav Havel International Airport (PRG), about 15 kilometres from the centre. Connecting to the city is very easy and inexpensive via the AE (Airport Express) bus, which takes you directly to the Main Train Station (Hlavní nádraží) in the centre, or via local bus 59, which connects directly with Metro line A (Nádraží Veleslavín station).

We recommend carrying your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) as well. Minors must carry their own travel document, and a valid driving licence is required if you are hiring a car. Changes and cancellations follow the terms of the airlines, hotels and suppliers booked for you, so the cost depends on how close to departure you are and on the fare rules of each booking. Tell us as early as possible and we will look for the least costly option. The general terms of participation apply to every booking.
