A few words

Edinburgh, the proud capital of Scotland, is one of the most atmospheric and architecturally stunning cities in the world. Known as the “Athens of the North” thanks to its rich intellectual tradition, Edinburgh feels like the living set of a period film. The city is built on extinct volcanoes and rocky hills, offering dramatic, breathtaking views. It is divided in two in a unique way: the Old Town, with its medieval, multi-storey buildings and labyrinthine closes, and the elegant Georgian New Town with its neoclassical avenues. It is a destination full of mystique, living tradition to the sound of the bagpipes, lush green landscapes and a warm, genuine hospitality that draws you in from the very first moment.

History

Edinburgh’s history stretches back into the mists of time, with the first fortified settlement built on the famous Castle Rock as early as the Iron Age. During the Middle Ages, the city became the official capital of the Kingdom of Scotland and the focal point of the endless, bloody conflicts with England. Its most golden chapter was written in the 18th century, during the Scottish Enlightenment, when Edinburgh became a global centre of science, philosophy and literature, producing great minds such as Adam Smith and David Hume. Despite Scotland’s full incorporation into the United Kingdom, the city kept its proud national identity and its own legal and educational systems intact, and today it stands as the country’s modern political and cultural symbol.

Sights

The tour begins at the iconic Edinburgh Castle, which towers imposingly over the city and houses the Scottish crown jewels. From the castle gates begins the Royal Mile, the city’s most famous medieval street, which runs through the Old Town and ends at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the King’s official residence in Scotland. Walk down Victoria Street, the beautiful, colourful curving street that inspired “Diagon Alley” in the Harry Potter films. For lovers of nature and hiking, a climb up Arthur’s Seat, the summit of an extinct volcano, rewards you with stunning panoramic views. Finally, Calton Hill with its neoclassical monuments and a tour of the underground medieval closes (such as the Real Mary King’s Close) round off an unforgettable experience.

Food

Scottish cuisine is traditional, rich and built on outstanding local produce, such as fresh seafood, game and Aberdeen Angus beef. The quintessential national dish is Haggis (a traditional, peppery delicacy of minced lamb, oats, onion and spices, always served with neeps and tatties—mashed turnip and potato). Also try Cullen Skink (a rich, creamy soup of smoked haddock and potatoes) and the famous Scottish Pies (small meat pies). For street food, the open-air markets offer juicy hog roast in a soft bun. For dessert, Shortbread (traditional, rich butter biscuits) and Cranachan (a dessert of whipped cream, fresh raspberries, honey, oats and Scotch whisky) are pure temptation. Naturally, the meal always ends with a glass of authentic Scotch Whisky.

Nightlife

Edinburgh’s nightlife is full of life and warmth, revolving around the legendary culture of the Scottish pub. The Old Town, and especially the Grassmarket area, is packed with historic pubs, some of which have been operating for centuries, offering an enormous range of local ales and hundreds of whisky labels (don’t miss a visit to The Bow Bar). George Street in the New Town offers a trendier, more elegant alternative, with cocktail lounges and clubs for dancing. Edinburgh is also famous for its live music venues, where you can enjoy traditional Scottish and folk music, as well as for its “Ghost Tours”—night-time walking tours full of tales of terror through the city’s dark graveyards and narrow closes.

Useful information

The official currency of Scotland is the Pound Sterling (GBP), so you will need to exchange currency or use a card (cards are accepted everywhere, even for the smallest transactions, as the city is almost cashless). Note: Scotland also circulates banknotes issued by the Scottish banks (Scottish banknotes), which are perfectly legal, but if you have any left over, it is best to spend them before leaving the country. Edinburgh is two hours behind Greece and the international dialling code is 0044. The city is served by Edinburgh International Airport (EDI), about 12 kilometres from the centre. The connection to the city is exemplary via the Tram, which departs every 7 minutes right outside the airport and takes you to central Princes Street in about 30 minutes, or via the 24-hour Airlink 100 express bus.

Tour's Location

When is the best time to travel?

This is a made-to-order trip, so you choose the dates. We are happy to advise on the best season for this destination and on how the weather, prices and crowds change through the year — just tell us roughly when you are thinking of travelling.

What is included in the price?

The main inclusions are:

  • Flight tickets
  • 1 cabin bag up to 8 kg (and 1 personal item)
  • Airport taxes
  • Fuel surcharges

The full list of what is and is not included appears in the "Included / Excluded" section on this page.

Will the flight be direct?

It depends on the season and the destination. Many trips do have a direct flight, but depending on your dates the airlines may not have a direct connection available for that period, in which case the trip may involve one stopover. We will tell you the exact flight routing clearly in your quote, before you proceed with the booking.

Is the "From €X" price what I'll actually pay?

Not necessarily. The "From €X" price is the lowest price available today, based on current flight and hotel availability for that destination. Because availability changes daily, the final price for your specific dates may differ. We'll send you a firm, written quote before anything is charged, once you tell us the dates you have in mind.

Why does the price change depending on the date?

Flight and hotel prices change daily depending on season, demand, day of the week, and how far in advance you book. That's why the price shown is indicative — the earlier you tell us your dates, the easier it is for us to secure the best possible price.

How much does a single room cost?

The single-room supplement varies by hotel and destination, and is included in the quote you'll receive for your specific dates. If you're travelling alone, let us know from the start so the quote already reflects the correct single-room price.

When do I pay for my trip?

Payment is due in full at the time of booking. For certain hotels that have their own payment policy (for example a deposit or a specific payment deadline), we'll let you know clearly before you proceed, so you know exactly what applies.

If I book now, is the price locked in?

Yes — once your booking is confirmed, the price is fixed and won't be affected by later changes in flight or hotel prices. Availability and price can only change before your booking is finalised.

Is there a surcharge if I depart from a different city?

Several trips offer the option to depart from a city other than Athens (for example Thessaloniki), usually with a small additional charge. If this applies to a specific trip, it will be noted on the page or mentioned when we send your quote. This trip is also available departing from Larnaca (Cyprus) — the flight price difference is calculated in your personal quote.

What travel documents do I need?

For this destination, Greek/EU citizens do not need a visa for a tourist visit — a valid passport is required (ID cards are not accepted in the UK). A national ID card is not accepted. Entry rules change from time to time, so please confirm the current requirements with us before you book.

Can I change the dates or cancel?

Changes and cancellations follow the terms of the airlines, hotels and suppliers booked for you, so the cost depends on how close to departure you are and on the fare rules of each booking. Tell us as early as possible and we will look for the least costly option. The general terms of participation apply to every booking.

Is travel insurance included?

Travel insurance is not included in the price unless the "Included" list on this page says otherwise. We strongly recommend it, especially for trips outside the EU, so that medical care, cancellation and lost luggage are covered. We can arrange a policy for you — just ask when you book.

Can the trip be customised?

Yes — this is an individual trip, not a group departure. There is no fixed itinerary and no coach schedule: you travel on your own, at your own pace. We can change the number of nights, the class of hotel, add or drop destinations and arrange transfers, car hire or private guides.

How do I book?

Send us a request through the form on this page, call us, or drop by the office. We will come back with availability and a written quotation before anything is charged. The trip as shown runs for 4 days.
