Madrid, the impressive capital of Spain, is a cosmopolitan metropolis that enchants visitors with its aristocratic finesse, its vast boulevards and its unique, energy-filled everyday life. Built in the heart of the Iberian Peninsula, Madrid perfectly combines its imperial grandeur with a thoroughly modern, warm Mediterranean aura. It is a city that never sleeps, famous worldwide for its top art museums, its lush royal parks, its intense gastronomic scene and the unique lifestyle of its inhabitants, the “Madrileños”, who know how to savour every moment. Madrid is not just a destination for sightseeing, but a living experience that sweeps you up in its rhythm.
Unlike other historic Spanish cities, Madrid rose to prominence relatively late. It began in the 9th century as a small Moorish fortress named “Mayrit” (source of water). Its fate changed radically in 1561, when King Philip II moved the royal court from Toledo to Madrid, turning it into the capital of the mighty Spanish Empire. The city flourished spectacularly during the Golden Age (Siglo de Oro) of arts and letters, while in the 18th century, under the Bourbon dynasty, it acquired the grand palaces and boulevards that define its character to this day. Despite the trials of the Spanish Civil War in the 20th century, Madrid was reborn after the fall of the dictatorship, leading the legendary cultural movement “La Movida Madrileña” that turned it into a symbol of freedom and creativity.
The tour begins at the Puerta del Sol (Gate of the Sun), the city’s most central square, home to Spain’s “Kilometre Zero” and the famous statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree. A short distance away lies the impressive Plaza Mayor, an enclosed Baroque square with a unique atmosphere. The Palacio Real (Royal Palace), one of the largest and most luxurious palaces in Europe, and the adjacent Plaza de Oriente are breathtaking. For shopping and architecture, the Gran Vía is Madrid’s answer to Broadway, lined with iconic buildings, theatres and shops. Art lovers will be thrilled by the “Golden Triangle of Art”, centred on the Prado Museum (one of the world’s most important museums, with works by Velázquez and Goya) and the Reina Sofía Museum (home to Picasso’s “Guernica”). Finally, for relaxation, the vast and beautiful El Retiro Park, with its crystal lake and glass palace (Palacio de Cristal), is UNESCO-protected and an oasis in the heart of the city.
Madrid’s gastronomy is rich, delicious and ideal for lovers of tapas. The quintessential traditional dish the locals take pride in is Cocido Madrileño (a hearty, slow-cooked stew of chickpeas, meats and vegetables, served in three courses). Be sure to try the Bocadillo de Calamares (a sandwich of crispy fried calamari), the street-food trademark of the area around Plaza Mayor. For a top experience, visit the historic covered market Mercado de San Miguel to sample gourmet tapas, Jamón Ibérico and fresh seafood. For dessert, Madrid has a legendary tradition: Churros con Chocolate (crispy, fried sticks of dough dipped in thick hot chocolate), best enjoyed at the historic Chocolatería San Ginés, which has been open non-stop since 1894. Accompany your meal with an ice-cold Mahou beer or a glass of Ribera del Duero red wine.
Madrid’s nightlife is simply legendary and is considered among the liveliest in Europe. The action starts late at night, as Madrileños rarely go out before midnight. Each neighbourhood has its own character: La Latina is the ideal area for the traditional “tapeo” (hopping from bar to bar for tapas and wine), Malasaña is the heart of the alternative, indie and rock scene, while Chueca is full of trendy cocktail bars and lively cafés. For those seeking clubbing until dawn, Madrid is home to Kapital, a world-famous seven-storey club housed in an old theatre, where every floor plays a different style of music. For an authentic Spanish experience, don’t miss a Flamenco show at one of the city’s traditional Tablaos (such as the Corral de la Morería).
The official currency of Spain is the Euro (€), which makes transactions very easy, and cards are used everywhere, even for very small amounts. Madrid is one hour behind Greece and the international dialling code is 0034. The city is served by the huge, ultra-modern Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas International Airport (MAD). The connection to the city centre is exemplary and incredibly easy: the fastest way is the Metro (Line 8 – Pink Line), which links all the airport terminals with the central Nuevos Ministerios station in less than 15-20 minutes. Alternatively, there is the 24-hour Línea Exprés Aeropuerto express bus (yellow buses), which takes you directly to Plaza de Cibeles and Atocha station, as well as the suburban train (Cercanías, line C1) from Terminal 4.

The full list of what is and is not included appears in the "Included / Excluded" section on this page.
It depends on the season and the destination. Many trips do have a direct flight, but depending on your dates the airlines may not have a direct connection available for that period, in which case the trip may involve one stopover. We will tell you the exact flight routing clearly in your quote, before you proceed with the booking.
Not necessarily. The "From €X" price is the lowest price available today, based on current flight and hotel availability for that destination. Because availability changes daily, the final price for your specific dates may differ. We'll send you a firm, written quote before anything is charged, once you tell us the dates you have in mind.
Flight and hotel prices change daily depending on season, demand, day of the week, and how far in advance you book. That's why the price shown is indicative — the earlier you tell us your dates, the easier it is for us to secure the best possible price.
The single-room supplement varies by hotel and destination, and is included in the quote you'll receive for your specific dates. If you're travelling alone, let us know from the start so the quote already reflects the correct single-room price.
Payment is due in full at the time of booking. For certain hotels that have their own payment policy (for example a deposit or a specific payment deadline), we'll let you know clearly before you proceed, so you know exactly what applies.
Yes — once your booking is confirmed, the price is fixed and won't be affected by later changes in flight or hotel prices. Availability and price can only change before your booking is finalised.
Several trips offer the option to depart from a city other than Athens (for example Thessaloniki), usually with a small additional charge. If this applies to a specific trip, it will be noted on the page or mentioned when we send your quote. This trip is also available departing from Larnaca (Cyprus) — the flight price difference is calculated in your personal quote.
For destinations inside the European Union and the Schengen area, Greek citizens travel with a new-type national ID card bearing Latin characters, or with a valid passport. We recommend carrying your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) as well. Minors must carry their own travel document, and a valid driving licence is required if you are hiring a car. Entry rules change, so please confirm the current requirements with us before you book.
Changes and cancellations follow the terms of the airlines, hotels and suppliers booked for you, so the cost depends on how close to departure you are and on the fare rules of each booking. Tell us as early as possible and we will look for the least costly option. The general terms of participation apply to every booking.
Travel insurance is not included in the price unless the "Included" list on this page says otherwise. We strongly recommend it, especially for trips outside the EU, so that medical care, cancellation and lost luggage are covered. We can arrange a policy for you — just ask when you book.
Yes — this is an individual trip, not a group departure. There is no fixed itinerary and no coach schedule: you travel on your own, at your own pace. We can change the number of nights, the class of hotel, add or drop destinations and arrange transfers, car hire or private guides.
Send us a request through the form on this page, call us, or drop by the office. We will come back with availability and a written quotation before anything is charged. The trip as shown runs for 4 days.
