Kos, the birthplace of Hippocrates, is a green Dodecanese island with endless sandy beaches, rich history and vibrant nightlife. Flat and cycling-friendly, it combines archaeological treasures with a cosmopolitan character. It is ideal for families, couples and water-sports enthusiasts.
Kos was the birthplace of Hippocrates, the father of medicine, and home to the famous Asklepion. The island flourished in the Hellenistic era and later passed through Romans, Byzantines, the Knights of Saint John and Ottomans. The 20th-century Italian occupation left notable examples of architecture in the town.
The Asklepion, the ancient healing sanctuary with sea views, is the top sight. The Castle of the Knights (Neratzia) guards the harbour, while the Plane Tree of Hippocrates dominates the town. The beaches of Paradise, Tigaki and Kefalos, and the volcanic Therma with its hot springs, stand out.
Kos cuisine is based on local products: krasotyri cheese, pichtogala, local wine and fresh fish. Try traditional dishes in tavernas in the villages of Zia and Pyli, with sunset views. The island’s gastronomy combines authentic flavours with Mediterranean freshness.
Kos is famous for its lively nightlife, especially in the town around Nafklirou Street (“Bar Street”), where bars and clubs go on until morning. In Kardamena and Tigaki the scene is more youthful, while there are also more relaxed options by the sea.

Several trips offer the option to depart from a city other than Athens (for example Thessaloniki), usually with a small additional charge. If this applies to a specific trip, it will be noted on the page or mentioned when we send your quote.
For your trip within Greece, a valid national ID card or passport is enough. If you travel by air, you need an official photo ID for the airport check. For minors travelling, please check any required documents in advance.
The local currency is Euro. Cards are widely accepted in cities and hotels, but it is worth carrying some cash for small shops, markets and tips. Tell your bank you are travelling so your card is not blocked.
Changes and cancellations follow the terms of the airlines, hotels and suppliers booked for you, so the cost depends on how close to departure you are and on the fare rules of each booking.
