Ithaca is the legendary island of Odysseus, a destination steeped in myth and serenity. Small and mountainous, with green slopes and hidden coves, it offers an authentic experience away from the bustle. It is ideal for couples, sailors and those seeking quiet and natural beauty.
Ithaca is identified with the kingdom of Odysseus, as described by Homer in the Odyssey. Although archaeologists still search for the Homeric palace, the island has yielded significant Mycenaean-era finds. Its history is linked to the maritime tradition of the Ionian and successive Venetian, French and British rule.
Vathy, the capital with its natural harbour, and the picturesque fishing villages of Kioni and Frikes are a must. Worth visiting are the School of Homer, the Cave of the Nymphs and the Mycenaean settlement of Aetos. The beaches of Gidaki, Filiatro and Sarakiniko, often accessible only by boat, offer seclusion and crystal waters.
Ithacan cuisine is based on fresh fish, local thyme honey and olive oil, as well as rovani, the island’s traditional sweet. Try seafood and home-cooked dishes in tavernas in Vathy, Kioni and Frikes. Authenticity and family hospitality are its trademark.
The nightlife of Ithaca is quiet and romantic. In Vathy and Kioni there are a few atmospheric bars and cafés by the sea. The island attracts sailors who moor in its picturesque harbours, giving a cosmopolitan yet discreet note to the evenings.

For your trip within Greece, a valid national ID card or passport is enough. If you travel by air, you need an official photo ID for the airport check. For minors travelling, please check any required documents in advance.
