Zakynthos, the Venetians’ “Fiore di Levante”, is the third largest of the Ionian Islands and combines green hills, dramatic cliffs and a sea in unbelievable shades of turquoise. It is a destination that suits couples, families and groups of friends equally well.
The island passed through Venetian, French and British hands before uniting with Greece in 1864 along with the rest of the Ionian Islands. The 1953 earthquake almost completely destroyed the main town, which was rebuilt while preserving its Venetian character. Zakynthos is the birthplace of the poets Dionysios Solomos and Andreas Kalvos.
Shipwreck Beach in the bay of Agios Georgios, the Blue Caves at Cape Skinari and Laganas Bay with its loggerhead sea turtles are the island’s trademarks. Also worth your time are the Bochali castle overlooking the town, the Monastery of Agios Dionysios, the mountain village of Keri with its lighthouse, and the beaches of Porto Limnionas, Gerakas and Banana.
Zakynthian cooking is known for skordostoumbi, ladotyri cheese, riganada and rabbit stifado. Among the sweets, mandolato nougat, fitoura and sesame pasteli lead the way, while local wines from the Vertzami and Robola grape varieties are the ideal companion to any meal.
Laganas and Tsilivi hold the liveliest nightlife, with bars and clubs open until the early hours. In the main town, Agios Markos square and the waterfront offer calmer options for a drink and for kantades, the island’s traditional serenades.

Entry rules change, so please confirm the current requirements with our office before you book.
The local currency is Euro. Cards are widely accepted in cities and hotels, but it is worth carrying some cash for small shops, markets and tips. Tell your bank you are travelling so your card is not blocked.
Changes and cancellations follow the terms of the airlines, hotels and suppliers booked for you, so the cost depends on how close to departure you are and on the fare rules of each booking. Tell us as early as possible and we will look for the least costly option. The general terms of participation apply to every booking.
Travel insurance is not included in the price unless the "Included" list on this page says otherwise. We strongly recommend it, especially for trips outside the EU, so that medical care, cancellation and lost luggage are covered. We can arrange a policy for you — just ask when you book.
Yes — this is an individual trip, not a group departure. There is no fixed itinerary and no coach schedule: you travel on your own, at your own pace. We can change the number of nights, the class of hotel, add or drop destinations and arrange transfers, car hire or private guides.
