Corfu is the most cosmopolitan of the Ionian Islands, with a strong Venetian character and a lush landscape of olive groves and cypress trees. It combines an elegant urban centre, quiet mountain villages and coastlines to suit every taste. It is an ideal destination for those who want culture and sea in the same trip.
The island is identified with mythical Scheria, land of the Phaeacians, where Odysseus found refuge. For more than four hundred years it was under Venetian rule and was never conquered by the Ottomans, which shaped its distinctive identity. The French and the British followed, and the Old Town is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Old Town, with its narrow kantounia, the Liston arcade and two Venetian fortresses, is the undisputed highlight. Paleokastritsa, with its green coves and hilltop monastery, offers some of the finest scenery in the Ionian. Do not miss Pontikonisi, the Achilleion palace of Empress Sisi, and Kanoni with its famous view.
Corfiot cuisine stands out with pastitsada, sofrito and bourdeto, dishes with a strong Venetian influence. You will also find noumboulo cured pork, local cheeses and the island’s distinctive ginger drink, tsitsibira. Kumquat, as a liqueur or spoon sweet, is the island’s best known souvenir.
In Corfu Town evenings begin with a drink on the Liston and continue in the bars of the old lanes. Gouvia, Dassia and Benitses draw a younger crowd with music until late. For quieter nights, the tavernas of Kassiopi and Agios Stefanos are an excellent choice.

For domestic travel you need a valid police ID card or passport in order to board the ferry or the flight. Bring your AMKA or European Health Insurance Card, and a valid driving licence plus a credit card in the driver's name if a car or scooter is included. Minors must carry their own travel document. Entry rules change, so please confirm the current requirements with our office before you book.
The local currency is Euro. Cards are widely accepted in cities and hotels, but it is worth carrying some cash for small shops, markets and tips. Tell your bank you are travelling so your card is not blocked.
Changes and cancellations follow the terms of the airlines, hotels and suppliers booked for you, so the cost depends on how close to departure you are and on the fare rules of each booking. Tell us as early as possible and we will look for the least costly option. The general terms of participation apply to every booking.
Travel insurance is not included in the price unless the "Included" list on this page says otherwise. We strongly recommend it, especially for trips outside the EU, so that medical care, cancellation and lost luggage are covered. We can arrange a policy for you — just ask when you book.
