A classic road trip along the West Coast, with a rental car and complete freedom of movement. You start in San Francisco, pass through the granite giants of Yosemite, reach Los Angeles and finish with Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Ten days that condense the American West in its most photogenic form.
California belonged to Spain and then to Mexico before passing to the United States in 1848 and filling up within months during the Gold Rush. Hollywood turned Los Angeles into the world capital of cinema, while Silicon Valley did the same for technology. Las Vegas, once a stop in the Nevada desert, grew from the 1940s onwards into the largest entertainment stage in the world.
In San Francisco the highlights are the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Fisherman’s Wharf and the cable cars climbing the steep streets. Yosemite National Park astonishes with the El Capitan monolith, Half Dome and its waterfalls. Then come Hollywood and the beaches of Santa Monica, the Las Vegas Strip and of course the Grand Canyon, one of the greatest natural spectacles on the planet.
California serves fresh, light cuisine with an emphasis on vegetables, seafood and the excellent wines of Napa and Sonoma. In San Francisco you try Dungeness crab and sourdough bread, while Los Angeles offers perhaps the best Mexican food outside Mexico. Las Vegas concentrates celebrity chef restaurants and buffets of every kind.
Las Vegas holds the crown, with Cirque du Soleil shows, concerts by major names and Strip casinos open around the clock. In Los Angeles, the Sunset Strip and Downtown gather bars, live music and rooftops with views. San Francisco prefers smaller, more creative spots in the Mission and North Beach.

For destinations outside the European Union you need a passport valid for at least six months beyond your return date, with blank pages for stamping. A national ID card is not accepted. Some countries also require a visa or an electronic travel authorisation to be obtained before departure, and a few ask for specific vaccinations. Entry rules change, so please confirm the current requirements with our office before you book.
The local currency is US Dollar (USD). Cards are widely accepted in cities and hotels, but it is worth carrying some cash for small shops, markets and tips. Tell your bank you are travelling so your card is not blocked.
Changes and cancellations follow the terms of the airlines, hotels and suppliers booked for you, so the cost depends on how close to departure you are and on the fare rules of each booking. Tell us as early as possible and we will look for the least costly option. The general terms of participation apply to every booking.
Travel insurance is not included in the price unless the "Included" list on this page says otherwise. We strongly recommend it, especially for trips outside the EU, so that medical care, cancellation and lost luggage are covered. We can arrange a policy for you — just ask when you book.
Yes — this is an individual trip, not a group departure. There is no fixed itinerary and no coach schedule: you travel on your own, at your own pace. We can change the number of nights, the class of hotel, add or drop destinations and arrange transfers, car hire or private guides.
