A few words

Warsaw is the capital and largest city of Poland, a model metropolis that uniquely combines a rich history with an ultra-modern, Western feel. Known as the “Phoenix City”, Warsaw was almost completely destroyed during World War II but managed to rise from its ashes, fully rebuilding its historic centre. Built on the banks of the River Vistula, the city charms visitors with its contrasts: from fairy-tale cobbled lanes and royal palaces to imposing glass skyscrapers and vast green parks. It is a dynamic and remarkably affordable destination that pleasantly surprises every traveller.

History

Warsaw became the capital of Poland at the end of the 16th century, when King Sigismund III moved the royal court from Krakow. The city experienced periods of great prosperity but also terrible ordeals, as it repeatedly found itself in the crosshairs of foreign powers. The darkest chapter of its history was written during World War II, with the Nazi occupation, the creation of the Jewish Ghetto and the heroic Warsaw Uprising of 1944, which resulted in the levelling of 85% of the city. After the war, under the communist regime, its inhabitants achieved a unique historical feat, restoring the Old Town on the basis of old maps and paintings — an effort recognised by UNESCO.

Sights

The tour begins in the Old Town (Stare Miasto) and Castle Square (Plac Zamkowy), dominated by the magnificent Royal Castle and Sigismund’s Column. Walking through the narrow lanes, you reach the Market Square (Rynek), at the centre of which stands the statue of the Mermaid, the city’s protector. From there begins the famous Royal Route (Trakt Królewski), a long avenue lined with palaces, churches and aristocratic buildings. The landmark of the modern city is the Palace of Culture and Science, an imposing skyscraper of Soviet architecture, Stalin’s gift to the city, offering a breathtaking panoramic view from its 30th floor. For lovers of nature and music, Łazienki Park is an earthly paradise of lakes, palaces and free-roaming peacocks, where free Chopin concerts are held in summer. Finally, the state-of-the-art Warsaw Uprising Museum and the Copernicus Science Centre offer first-class interactive experiences.

Food

Polish cuisine is tasty, hearty and perfect for the colder days of the year. The ultimate national dish is Pierogi (traditional filled dumplings, similar to ravioli, stuffed with potato and cheese, minced meat, cabbage or even fruit). Also try Bigos (game stewed with cabbage and sausages, known as “hunter’s stew”) and Zapiekanka (Poland’s street food staple — an open baguette with melted cheese, mushrooms and ketchup). Soups hold a special place, the most popular being Żurek (a sour soup with sausage and egg served in a bread loaf) and Barszcz (red beetroot soup). For dessert, try Wedel chocolate or a Pączek (a traditional jam-filled doughnut), and accompany your meal with a local Polish vodka (such as Zubrowka) or an ice-cold beer.

Nightlife

Warsaw has one of the liveliest and fastest-evolving nightlife scenes in Central Europe. In the city centre, the area around Nowy Świat street and the hidden Pawilony courtyards buzz with life, packed with small, alternative bars and pubs serving inexpensive beer. The Plac Zbawiciela area (also known as Hipster Square) is perfect for wine and cocktails in a trendier setting. For those seeking big clubs with famous DJs and dancing until dawn, Mazowiecka street is the epicentre. In the summer months, the action moves to the banks of the Vistula (Bulwary Wiślane), where open-air bars, food trucks and open-air clubs spring up, creating a wonderfully festive atmosphere under the stars.

Useful information

The official currency of Poland is the Złoty (PLN), so you will need to exchange currency or use a card (cards are accepted everywhere, even for the smallest amounts). Warsaw is one hour behind Greece, and the country’s international dialling code is 0048. The city is served mainly by Warsaw Chopin International Airport (WAW), just 10 kilometres from the centre and connected extremely easily and quickly to the city by suburban train (lines S2 and S3). Some low-cost airlines use Modlin (WMI) airport, which is around 40 kilometres from the city and connected to the centre by express buses (ModlinBus) or a combination of bus and train.

Tour's Location

When is the best time to travel?

This is a made-to-order trip, so you choose the dates. We are happy to advise on the best season for this destination and on how the weather, prices and crowds change through the year — just tell us roughly when you are thinking of travelling.

What is included in the price?

The main inclusions are:

  • Flight tickets
  • 1 cabin bag up to 10 kg (and 1 personal item)
  • Airport taxes
  • Fuel surcharges

The full list of what is and is not included appears in the "Included / Excluded" section on this page.

Will the flight be direct?

It depends on the season and the destination. Many trips do have a direct flight, but depending on your dates the airlines may not have a direct connection available for that period, in which case the trip may involve one stopover. We will tell you the exact flight routing clearly in your quote, before you proceed with the booking.

Is the "From €X" price what I'll actually pay?

Not necessarily. The "From €X" price is the lowest price available today, based on current flight and hotel availability for that destination. Because availability changes daily, the final price for your specific dates may differ. We'll send you a firm, written quote before anything is charged, once you tell us the dates you have in mind.

Why does the price change depending on the date?

Flight and hotel prices change daily depending on season, demand, day of the week, and how far in advance you book. That's why the price shown is indicative — the earlier you tell us your dates, the easier it is for us to secure the best possible price.

How much does a single room cost?

The single-room supplement varies by hotel and destination, and is included in the quote you'll receive for your specific dates. If you're travelling alone, let us know from the start so the quote already reflects the correct single-room price.

When do I pay for my trip?

Payment is due in full at the time of booking. For certain hotels that have their own payment policy (for example a deposit or a specific payment deadline), we'll let you know clearly before you proceed, so you know exactly what applies.

If I book now, is the price locked in?

Yes — once your booking is confirmed, the price is fixed and won't be affected by later changes in flight or hotel prices. Availability and price can only change before your booking is finalised.

Is there a surcharge if I depart from a different city?

Several trips offer the option to depart from a city other than Athens (for example Thessaloniki), usually with a small additional charge. If this applies to a specific trip, it will be noted on the page or mentioned when we send your quote. This trip is also available departing from Larnaca (Cyprus) — the flight price difference is calculated in your personal quote.

What travel documents do I need?

For destinations inside the European Union and the Schengen area, Greek citizens travel with a new-type national ID card bearing Latin characters, or with a valid passport. We recommend carrying your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) as well. Minors must carry their own travel document, and a valid driving licence is required if you are hiring a car. Entry rules change, so please confirm the current requirements with us before you book.

Can I change the dates or cancel?

Changes and cancellations follow the terms of the airlines, hotels and suppliers booked for you, so the cost depends on how close to departure you are and on the fare rules of each booking. Tell us as early as possible and we will look for the least costly option. The general terms of participation apply to every booking.

Is travel insurance included?

Travel insurance is not included in the price unless the "Included" list on this page says otherwise. We strongly recommend it, especially for trips outside the EU, so that medical care, cancellation and lost luggage are covered. We can arrange a policy for you — just ask when you book.

Can the trip be customised?

Yes — this is an individual trip, not a group departure. There is no fixed itinerary and no coach schedule: you travel on your own, at your own pace. We can change the number of nights, the class of hotel, add or drop destinations and arrange transfers, car hire or private guides.

How do I book?

Send us a request through the form on this page, call us, or drop by the office. We will come back with availability and a written quotation before anything is charged. The trip as shown runs for 4 days.
