Sikinos is the island the Cyclades kept for themselves. Between Ios and Folegandros, with fewer than 300 permanent residents, it has not a single large hotel. What it has is a Chora hanging off a cliff, vineyards that have produced wine since antiquity, and a quiet you rarely find any more.
By ferry from Piraeus, about 5 hours by fast boat or 8-9 on a conventional vessel. More often visitors come from Ios or Folegandros, 20-40 minutes away. The port is Alopronia; Chora lies 3.5 kilometres above it.
In antiquity the island was called Oinoe — “wine land”. The Episkopi is a 3rd-century Roman funerary monument converted into a Byzantine church: a building where you see two eras sharing the same wall.

Alopronia with sand and shallows, Agios Georgios and Agios Nikolaos by boat, and Malta for those who walk.
Chickpea stew, local wine, thyme honey. The tavernas are few and family-run.
Beds are limited — book early for July and August. There is a bus between port and Chora; a scooter helps.
