A few words

Dubrovnik, at the southern tip of Croatia, is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved walled cities in the world. Known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic”, Dubrovnik feels like a living medieval fairy tale lapped by the deep-blue waters of the sea. The entire Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and captivates visitors with its imposing walls, marble-paved lanes, stone palaces and Baroque churches. Uniquely combining rich history and architecture with a cosmopolitan aura, idyllic beaches and lush green islets nearby, Dubrovnik is a top destination offering an unforgettable travel experience.

History

The city was founded in the 7th century and for centuries was known as Ragusa. During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, it developed into a powerful, independent aristocratic maritime republic that directly rivalled Venice in wealth and naval power. With its wise motto “Liberty is not sold for all the gold in the world”, the Republic of Ragusa was renowned for its diplomacy. In 1667, a devastating earthquake flattened much of the city, which was nevertheless rebuilt in magnificent Baroque style. In modern history, Dubrovnik was severely tested during the Yugoslav war (1991-1992), when it was besieged and mercilessly shelled. Yet it was restored with absolute respect for its history, reclaiming its place as one of the most dazzling destinations in the world.

Sights

The tour begins at the Pile Gate, the impressive main entrance through the walls. From there begins the Stradun (Placa), the Old Town’s beautiful central marble-paved promenade, lined with cafés and shops. At the start of the street stands the great Onofrio Fountain. The absolute highlight of the trip is the Walk on the Medieval Walls (Walls of Dubrovnik), a route of about 2 kilometres encircling the city and offering stunning views over the red-tiled rooftops and the endless blue. Visit the Rector’s Palace and Fort Lovrijenac, built on a rock outside the walls (and world-famous as “King’s Landing” from the series Game of Thrones). For the most magical panoramic photograph, board the Cable Car up Srđ hill. Finally, take a boat to the lush, uninhabited islet of Lokrum, just 10 minutes from the old harbour.

Food

Dubrovnik’s cuisine is thoroughly Mediterranean, with strong Italian influences (owing to proximity and history), based on ultra-fresh seafood and olive oil. The quintessential dish to try is Crni Rižot (black risotto with cuttlefish and their ink), along with Peka (meat—usually octopus or lamb—with potatoes and herbs, slow-cooked for hours in a traditional vessel under an iron bell covered with embers). Also try fresh oysters and mussels from the nearby Ston area. For a quick, tasty snack, look for Burek (a layered filo pastry filled with minced meat or cheese). For dessert, the city’s traditional sweet is Rozata, a local version of crème brûlée scented with rose liqueur. Accompany your meal with a fine local wine, such as the white Pošip or the red Plavac Mali.

Nightlife

Nightlife in Dubrovnik is particularly lively, especially in the summer months, with a very romantic and atmospheric character. The evening begins with a drink or a glass of wine in the countless little bars hidden in the narrow stone lanes around the Stradun. One of the most breathtaking and famous experiences is the Buža Bars (such as Buža I and Buža II). These bars are literally perched on the rocks outside the city walls, letting you enjoy your drink as the waves break at your feet, with views of the sunset. For those seeking clubbing until dawn, the ultimate spot is Culture Club Revelin, a world-famous club housed inside a genuine 15th-century medieval fortress, hosting top DJs.

Useful information

Croatia is a member of the eurozone, so the official currency is the Euro (€), making your transactions very easy. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, but it is good to carry a little cash for small expenses, tips or tickets for some of the local boats. Dubrovnik is one hour behind Greece and the international dialling code is 00385. The city is served by Dubrovnik International Airport (DBV), about 20 kilometres from the centre. The connection to the Old Town is very easy and inexpensive via the Platanus shuttle buses, which are timed to flight arrivals and take you directly to the Pile Gate or the Main Bus Station at Gruž harbour in about 30 minutes.

Tour's Location

When is the best time to travel?

This is a made-to-order trip, so you choose the dates. We are happy to advise on the best season for this destination and on how the weather, prices and crowds change through the year — just tell us roughly when you are thinking of travelling.

What is included in the price?

The main inclusions are:

  • Flight tickets
  • 1 cabin bag up to 8 kg (and 1 personal item)
  • Airport taxes
  • Fuel surcharges

The full list of what is and is not included appears in the "Included / Excluded" section on this page.

Will the flight be direct?

It depends on the season and the destination. Many trips do have a direct flight, but depending on your dates the airlines may not have a direct connection available for that period, in which case the trip may involve one stopover. We will tell you the exact flight routing clearly in your quote, before you proceed with the booking.

Is the "From €X" price what I'll actually pay?

Not necessarily. The "From €X" price is the lowest price available today, based on current flight and hotel availability for that destination. Because availability changes daily, the final price for your specific dates may differ. We'll send you a firm, written quote before anything is charged, once you tell us the dates you have in mind.

Why does the price change depending on the date?

Flight and hotel prices change daily depending on season, demand, day of the week, and how far in advance you book. That's why the price shown is indicative — the earlier you tell us your dates, the easier it is for us to secure the best possible price.

How much does a single room cost?

The single-room supplement varies by hotel and destination, and is included in the quote you'll receive for your specific dates. If you're travelling alone, let us know from the start so the quote already reflects the correct single-room price.

When do I pay for my trip?

Payment is due in full at the time of booking. For certain hotels that have their own payment policy (for example a deposit or a specific payment deadline), we'll let you know clearly before you proceed, so you know exactly what applies.

If I book now, is the price locked in?

Yes — once your booking is confirmed, the price is fixed and won't be affected by later changes in flight or hotel prices. Availability and price can only change before your booking is finalised.

Is there a surcharge if I depart from a different city?

Several trips offer the option to depart from a city other than Athens (for example Thessaloniki), usually with a small additional charge. If this applies to a specific trip, it will be noted on the page or mentioned when we send your quote. This trip is also available departing from Larnaca (Cyprus) — the flight price difference is calculated in your personal quote.

What travel documents do I need?

For destinations inside the European Union and the Schengen area, Greek citizens travel with a new-type national ID card bearing Latin characters, or with a valid passport. We recommend carrying your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) as well. Minors must carry their own travel document, and a valid driving licence is required if you are hiring a car. Entry rules change, so please confirm the current requirements with us before you book.

Can I change the dates or cancel?

Changes and cancellations follow the terms of the airlines, hotels and suppliers booked for you, so the cost depends on how close to departure you are and on the fare rules of each booking. Tell us as early as possible and we will look for the least costly option. The general terms of participation apply to every booking.

Is travel insurance included?

Travel insurance is not included in the price unless the "Included" list on this page says otherwise. We strongly recommend it, especially for trips outside the EU, so that medical care, cancellation and lost luggage are covered. We can arrange a policy for you — just ask when you book.

Can the trip be customised?

Yes — this is an individual trip, not a group departure. There is no fixed itinerary and no coach schedule: you travel on your own, at your own pace. We can change the number of nights, the class of hotel, add or drop destinations and arrange transfers, car hire or private guides.

How do I book?

Send us a request through the form on this page, call us, or drop by the office. We will come back with availability and a written quotation before anything is charged. The trip as shown runs for 4 days.
