Montenegro packs into a small country what elsewhere spreads across three: a fjord-like bay with Venetian towns, Adriatic beaches, and mountain plateaus with Europe’s deepest canyon. Distances are short, the roads dramatic, and a car is the only sensible way to see it all.
From Greece you arrive via Albania (Kakavia → Tirana → Shkodra → Božaj border crossing) — the shortest and most scenic option. Inside the country, the coastal road around the Bay of Kotor is a must; there’s also a ferry across the Kamenari–Lepetane strait that saves time. The mountain road to Durmitor has many bends and needs a rested driver. A green card is essential.
The Bay of Kotor is a UNESCO monument: Venetian walls, Romanesque churches and centuries of maritime tradition. Budva has been continuously inhabited for 2,500 years and was, by tradition, founded by Cadmus. Cetinje was the historic capital of the prince-bishops, the heart of Montenegrin independence against the Ottomans.
The old town of Kotor and the climb to the St John fortress (1,350 steps, a view over the whole bay); Perast and the islet of Our Lady of the Rocks; Sveti Stefan; Durmitor National Park with the Black Lake; the Đurđevića Tara Bridge over the Tara Canyon, Europe’s deepest; and Ostrog Monastery, carved into the cliff face.
On the coast, fish, seafood and Italian influences dominate (risotto, pasta). Inland, the food turns heartier: smoked njeguški pršut, cheeses, lamb “under the bell”, pies. Vranac wines are the local red signature.
Budva is the country’s nightlife hub, with clubs and beach bars that fill up in July and August. Kotor has a calmer, more atmospheric evening in its Venetian alleys. In the mountains, the night is for a fireplace and a sky full of stars.
Currency: Euro (without being in the EU). Time zone: one hour behind Greece. You’ll need a passport or ID and a green card. There’s a toll for the Sozina Tunnel. Best time to visit: June and September on the coast; July–August in the mountains, where the weather stays cool.

For your trip within Greece, a valid ID card or passport is enough. If you're travelling by air, you'll need an official photo ID for airport checks. For minors travelling, please check what documentation may be required.
Changes and cancellations follow the terms of the airlines, hotels and suppliers booked on your behalf, so the cost depends on how close to departure we are and each fare's rules. Let us know as early as possible and we'll look for the least costly solution. The general terms of participation apply to every booking.
