For centuries the peninsula’s economy rested on fishing and pearl diving, a tradition that shaped its culture. The discovery of hydrocarbons in the 20th century transformed the country, which gained independence in 1971. In recent years Qatar has invested heavily in culture, museums and sport.
The Museum of Islamic Art, designed by I. M. Pei, houses one of the world’s most important collections of Islamic art. Souq Waqif offers spices, textiles and cafes in an atmosphere of old Arabia, while the Corniche reveals Doha’s striking skyline. In the desert, Khor Al Adaid is the rare place where the sea meets the dunes.
Qatari cuisine draws on Arab and Persian traditions, with machboos, spiced rice with meat or fish, as the national dish. In the cafes of Souq Waqif you can try karak tea and Arabic coffee with dates. Doha also has an excellent international dining scene with high-end restaurants.
Evenings in Doha revolve around the souqs, traditional cafes and walks along the Corniche and at Katara. Alcohol is served mainly in hotels and licensed venues. An evening at a desert camp with dinner and music is the most authentic experience.

Yes — once your booking is confirmed, the price is fixed and won't be affected by later changes in flight or hotel prices. Availability and price can only change before your booking is finalised.
Several trips offer the option to depart from a city other than Athens (for example Thessaloniki), usually with a small additional charge. If this applies to a specific trip, it will be noted on the page or mentioned when we send your quote.
For this destination, Greek/EU citizens do not need a visa for a tourist visit — a valid passport is enough, usually with at least six months' validity remaining after your return date. A national ID card is not accepted. Entry rules change from time to time, so please confirm the current requirements with our office before you book.
The local currency is Qatari Riyal (QAR). Cards are widely accepted in cities and hotels, but it is worth carrying some cash for small shops, markets and tips. Tell your bank you are travelling so your card is not blocked.
Changes and cancellations follow the terms of the airlines, hotels and suppliers booked for you, so the cost depends on how close to departure you are and on the fare rules of each booking. Travel insurance is not included in the price unless the "Included" list on this page says otherwise. We strongly recommend it, especially for trips outside the EU, so that medical care, cancellation and lost luggage are covered. We can arrange a policy for you — just ask when you book.
