Barbados is the easternmost island of the Caribbean, with British heritage, pink-white beaches on the west coast (the Platinum Coast) and a wild Atlantic side to the east. Its capital, Bridgetown, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A British colony from 1625 until independence in 1966, with an economy built on sugar and slavery. In 2021 it became a republic, replacing the queen with its own president.
