The Bahamas are 700 islands and islets north of Cuba, famous for the clearest turquoise waters in the Atlantic. Nassau, on New Providence island, is the colourful capital with colonial architecture and casinos.
First inhabited by the Lucayan Taíno. Columbus made his first landfall here in 1492, before reaching the rest of the Caribbean. A British colony from 1718, independent since 1973.
Cable Beach in Nassau. The Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island with its aquarium. The Exuma Cays, famous for their swimming pigs. And Blue Lagoon Island for swimming with dolphins.
Conch in every form — salad, fried, in soup. Rice and peas with chicken. And rum cake, the traditional dessert.

Greek/EU passport holders do not need a visa for a tourist visit to the Bahamas — a passport valid for at least six months beyond your return date is enough.
