The closest destination most Greeks have never thought of. Kosovo is small, very inexpensive, and hides some of the most important Byzantine and Serbian medieval monuments in the Balkans — a day’s drive from Thessaloniki.
From Thessaloniki via Evzonoi and Skopje, then north to Pristina — around 5–6 hours in total, on a good road. Prizren is to the southwest, an hour from the capital. Distances within the country are short. A green card is essential; if it doesn’t cover Kosovo, insurance can be bought at the border for a small fee.
At Kosovo Field, the 1389 battle that shaped Serbian historical memory took place. The region was the spiritual centre of medieval Serbia: the Patriarchate of Peć, Dečani Monastery and Gračanica are UNESCO monuments with remarkable Byzantine frescoes. Prizren retains an Ottoman character, with mosques, a hammam and a stone bridge.

Balkan cuisine with Albanian and Turkish influences: flija (a layered pastry), qebapa, tavë with meat and yoghurt, baklava. Prices are among the lowest in Europe — a full meal costs very little. Coffee is a serious matter, and Pristina is full of cafés.
Kosovo has Europe’s youngest population, and it shows: Pristina has a lively nightlife with bars and live music, especially around the pedestrian street. In Prizren, evenings are more atmospheric, in the alleys by the river.
Currency: Euro (without being in the EU). Time zone: one hour behind Greece. You’ll need a passport or ID card and a green card covering Kosovo — if it doesn’t, buy insurance at the border. ⚠ If you plan to continue into Serbia, check the correct order for crossing the border. Best time to visit: April–October.

As this is a trip in your own car, there is no departure surcharge — you start from wherever suits you.
For your trip within Greece, a valid ID card or passport is enough. If you're travelling by air, you'll need an official photo ID for airport checks. For minors travelling, please check what documentation may be required.
Changes and cancellations follow the terms of the airlines, hotels and suppliers booked on your behalf, so the cost depends on how close to departure we are and each fare's rules. Let us know as early as possible and we'll look for the least costly solution. The general terms of participation apply to every booking.
Travel insurance is not included in the price unless explicitly stated in the page's inclusions. We strongly recommend it, especially for trips outside the European Union, so that medical care, cancellation and luggage loss are covered. We can arrange it for you — just ask when booking.
