Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned traveller, you will find all the tips you need to make your visit unforgettable.
Wadi Rum, also known as «The Valley of the Moon», is a 300-square-mile desert plateau of rocky terrain in southern Jordan, 60 km east of Aqaba. It is the largest and one of the most spectacular desert landscapes not only in Jordan, but in the world. The area is protected by UNESCO, thanks to its numerous archaeological finds as well as its great geological significance and cultural heritage.
Among the mountains of Wadi Rum there are still Bedouin tribes, whose large tents made of goat hair form a distinctive feature of the landscape. This magical Bedouin realm became the setting for a true story recounted by director David Lean in the film «Lawrence of Arabia», as well as for various Hollywood productions set on the planet Mars and in Star Wars. The name Rum most likely comes from an Aramaic root meaning «high».
In this utterly lunar landscape, worthy of its name, grandiose rocks intricately sculpted by the wild winds rise like a wall above an arid red plain, with peaks that can reach heights of up to 1,750 metres. It is an inconceivable spectacle of a sandy desert, with hills and cliffs of multicoloured sandstone and granite towering over an almost perfectly smooth surface of red-pink hue.
Wadi Rum is one of the most unforgettable destinations in Jordan, and has been since the dawn of time. On a trip to Jordan you will enjoy an incomparable safari experience in specially adapted vehicles, admiring at close range the striking multicoloured sand and the spellbinding black mountains that have inspired so many.
Discover the otherworldly beauty of the Wadi Rum desert and let the magic of the wild landscapes of the East sweep you away on a journey that is the experience of a lifetime.
