A few words about (magically) medieval Kufstein!
Kufstein is a dreamlike town with distinctive medieval architecture and a rich history. It lies in Tyrol, a state of aristocratic Austria, and is its second-largest town after Innsbruck. As if straight out of a fairy tale, it is surrounded by the snow-capped Alps and the rushing Inn river!

A brief stop at the almost untouched fortress of Kufstein, the Fortress – die Festung, will convince you that time there has stood still in the Middle Ages! Built on a 90-metre rock, with its emblematic Kaiserturm tower, which was also used throughout history as a prison, it is a multi-level fortress that will transport you to another era of castles and knights, while sweeping you away with its exquisite, breathtaking view. Points of interest within the fortress include its various themed museums, some of them dedicated to the Emperor Maximilian.

In Kufstein, the beautiful Mariastein chapel is well worth a visit, standing imposingly at the edge of a carved rock and dating from the 15th century. Here tradition has it that the statue of the Virgin Mary, which adorned Mariastein, returned to its original place on its own after being taken to Bavaria. The chapel has three places of pilgrimage, and just 150 steps separate you from the wonderful view that will reward you at the top of its tower.

An alternative suggestion, for nature lovers, is a visit to the Wildbichl wildlife park. A park of natural beauty made up of at least 60 different species of trees and shrubs. There you will have the chance to wander, explore and come into contact with various animals living in their natural environment, such as deer, owls, rams, wildcats and many more, which, with the help of experienced guides, you can approach and even feed.

Another ideal destination for nature lovers is the alpine lake Hechtsee! Its picturesque paths through lush greenery make it fantastic for hiking with the family, while its benches overlooking the lake will captivate and relax you as the landscape works its magic!
